19th Century English Mahogany Serpentine-Front Sideboard, Lion’s Head Hardware
$5,995
A refined 19th-century English mahogany sideboard of elegant serpentine form, raised on six tapered square legs terminating in spade feet. The shaped top follows the gentle bow of the façade, while the drawer fronts are veneered in richly figured mahogany displaying attractive flame and crotch patterns.
The configuration consists of a two long drawers above a shaped apron, flanked by two short drawers over two deeper drawers on either side, creating a balanced and highly usable layout. The original brass lion’s head ring pulls add a classical note and are proportionate to the scale of the piece. Shield-shaped escutcheons reinforce its traditional Georgian influence.
The proportions are generous at over 54 inches wide, making it suitable as a dining room sideboard, large console, or even a statement hall piece. The interior drawers appear clean and functional – one of them being partitioned- , and the back shows typical period construction.
The silhouette and hardware suggest a late Georgian or early Victorian interpretation—likely mid-19th century—with careful veneer work and solid craftsmanship throughout.
