An English George III period tall case clock from the mid 18th century, with chinoiserie décor and brass face by James Hewitt of Sunderland. Created in England during the reign of King George III period in the third quarter of the 18th century, this tall case clock is by the hand of James Hewitt of Sunderland, as inscribed at the top of the brass face. The rectangular head, flanked with petite thin Doric columns, secures an elegant face indeed, showcasing Roman and Arabic numbers surrounded by abundant scrollwork. The belly presents a single door adorned with a chinoiserie décor, with figures in intricate architectures. The ensemble is resting on a rectangular shaped base. With its black and golden colors and chinoiserie motifs, this English George III period tall case clock circa 1760 will make for a wonderful addition to any home, perhaps placed in a living room, foyer or hallway.
