English 19th Century Mahogany Octagonal Stool with Needlepoint Seat
$3,750
An English mahogany stool from the 19th century, featuring an unusual octagonal form, decorative inlay and a richly patterned needlepoint upholstered seat. The generously padded seat follows the eight-sided outline of the frame and is finished along its lower edge with a continuous row of brass nailheads.
The needlepoint displays an intricate figural scene within the central octagonal reserve, surrounded by geometric and stylized foliate borders in muted shades of olive, ochre, rust, cream and brown. Additional motifs decorate the upholstered sides, creating a particularly rich surface while retaining a softly aged palette.
Below, the mahogany frame is raised on four straight, gently splayed legs. Fine dark line inlay follows the length of each leg, terminating in small stylized Neoclassical motifs that provide an elegant decorative detail against the warm mahogany.
Compact yet visually distinctive, this 19th century English stool combines the restrained geometry of its mahogany base with the texture and pattern of traditional needlework. It would make an attractive occasional stool, dressing stool or decorative accent beside a chair or beneath a console table.
