English 19th Century Oak Windsor Armchair with Kilim Upholstery

An English oak Windsor armchair from the 19th century, featuring a graceful bowed back, pierced central splat and later kilim-style upholstered seat. The chair’s curved top rail sweeps continuously around the back, framing a delicate fan-shaped splat composed of slender pierced elements.

The open arms extend outward in sinuous curves before terminating in gently rounded hand rests. Their sculptural profiles bring considerable character to the chair and contrast with the restrained, tapered legs below. The legs are joined by stretchers for additional support, while the oak displays a warm honey-brown coloration and attractive grain throughout.

The generously proportioned seat has been upholstered in a later flatweave textile displaying geometric and stylized floral motifs in muted shades of rust, cream, grey and ochre. Its softly aged colors complement the warm tones and patina of the oak particularly well.
