English Regency Mahogany Hunt Table with Bottle Carrier, circa 1830

$24,600

An English Regency-period mahogany hunt or social table, circa 1830, designed for serving wine and other beverages before or after a hunt and during convivial gatherings. The table presents a broad horseshoe-shaped top with richly figured mahogany and an open inner curve that allowed guests or a server access to the center.

A fitted wooden bottle carrier with three circular wells travels along the curved metal track, allowing decanters or bottles to be moved around the table for convenient service. The tall brass rail rising above the rear edge is characteristic of the form and could support a curtain used as a firescreen or to protect the wall from splashes. Four boldly turned and tapering legs terminate in brass casters, providing stability and mobility while reinforcing the table’s architectural presence.

Measuring 78 inches wide by 39.5 inches deep, with a tabletop height of 29 inches and an overall height of 49 inches to the brass rail, this rare and highly functional table combines ingenious Regency design with dramatic scale. It could now serve beautifully as a distinctive drinks table, console, or entertaining piece.
