French 19th Century Giltwood Neoclassical Stool with Rosette Corners
$2,995
This French 19th-century stool is a refined example of neoclassical design, combining architectural clarity with delicate carved ornament. The square upholstered seat, recently recovered in a neutral textured fabric, rests above a finely detailed giltwood frame that retains a warm, softly aged patina.
The apron is decorated with a continuous band of beading and stylized motifs, creating a subtle rhythmic border beneath the seat. At each corner, carved rosettes provide a classical anchor, reinforcing the symmetry and restraint characteristic of the period. The legs are slender and tapered, with fluted shafts and carved foliate details at the upper sections, terminating in arrow feet. The gilding, now gently worn, enhances the depth of the carving without overwhelming the form.
Well-proportioned and versatile, the stool can function as additional seating, a footrest, or an accent piece at the end of a bed or beneath a console. Its balanced scale and elegant detailing allow it to integrate seamlessly into both traditional interiors and more transitional settings.
