French Faux Bamboo Bookcase Cabinet in Pine, circa 1900
$15,600
A tall French faux bamboo bookcase cabinet crafted in pine and dating to circa 1900, featuring a warm honey-toned finish and classic bamboo-form detailing throughout. The upper section is fitted with glazed double doors opening to shelved storage, while the lower cabinet offers additional concealed storage behind paneled doors decorated with applied faux bamboo cross motifs.
The cabinet is framed by turned faux bamboo uprights and matching trim, a style that became especially popular in France during the late 19th century alongside the influence of Japonisme and Anglo-Japanese decorative design. The mellow finish highlights the grain of the pine, while the lightly rustic character gives the piece a relaxed elegance well suited to both traditional and collected interiors.
Its narrow depth and substantial height make it particularly useful as a display cabinet, bookcase, or storage piece in a living room, dining room, library, or kitchen. The glazed upper doors allow for display while the lower compartment provides practical hidden storage.
The piece retains a naturally aged surface with wear, patina, and tonal variation consistent with age and use, contributing to its authentic antique character.
