Pair of 19th Century Carved Stone Spiral Column Lamps on Lucite Bases

$5,500

A striking pair of table lamps created from 19th-century carved stone architectural fragments. Each substantial column-form body is sculpted with a continuous spiral turning reminiscent of Solomonic columns, giving the pair a strong sense of movement and architectural presence. The pale stone retains its naturally irregular texture, with visible pitting, inclusions and variations in color that emphasize its age and hand-carved character.

The antique stone elements have been converted into lamps and mounted on later circular Lucite bases, creating a clean visual contrast between the weathered material and transparent supports. Antiqued brass fittings and sockets complete the design while complementing the warm off-white coloring of the stone.

Rewired for use in the United States, these sculptural lamps would make an impressive statement on a console, large bedside tables or opposing end tables. Their combination of historic architectural material and restrained modern mounts allows them to work particularly well in traditional, Mediterranean, contemporary or eclectic interiors. Lampshades are not included.
