Small French Faux Bamboo Mirror with Pointed Finials, circa 1900
$795
A French faux bamboo mirror dating to circa 1900, featuring a distinctive rectangular frame accented with pointed bamboo-form finials at each corner. Crafted in turned wood and finished in a warm honey-brown tone, the frame reflects the fascination with naturalistic bamboo forms that became highly fashionable in late 19th-century French decorative arts.
The elongated proportions and sharpened corner details give this example a slightly more graphic and architectural presence than many traditional faux bamboo mirrors. Fine turned nodes imitate the rhythm of natural bamboo while the projecting terminals create an elegant silhouette that works especially well layered into collected interiors.
Compact yet visually striking, the mirror is well suited for use in a powder room, hallway, bedroom, or gallery wall arrangement. Its restrained scale also makes it ideal for pairing with larger mirrors, paintings, or decorative objects in English Country House, French eclectic, or Anglo-Japanese inspired interiors.
The frame retains an attractive aged patina with gentle tonal variation and wear that complements the period character of the piece. The mirror plate shows age-related spotting and light surface wear consistent with antique examples of this period. The reverse retains an older backing.
