19th Century Black Forest Carved Cabinet with Glazed Doors, Adjustable Shelves
$28,000
A substantial 19th century Black Forest cabinet of architectural presence, richly carved and constructed in solid wood with deeply textured surfaces and naturalistic detailing. The upper section features two glazed doors framed by carved panels and applied ornament, opening to a spacious interior fitted with three adjustable shelves. The interior side grooves allow for flexible shelf positioning, making the piece highly functional for books, ceramics, or decorative objects.
The lower panels are boldly carved with crossed hunting motifs and stag-head ornamentation, characteristic of Black Forest craftsmanship. Repeating pinecone and geometric relief details frame the façade, while the sides display diamond-pattern carving. The heavy cornice and robust block feet reinforce the cabinet’s rustic, lodge-like character. The wood retains a dark, time-softened finish with areas of warm undertone showing through, enhancing the depth of the carving and the authenticity of the surface.
Impressive in scale and presence, this cabinet would anchor a mountain interior, library, or European-inspired setting, offering both strong visual impact and practical storage.
