Early 19th Century English Regency Burr Walnut Bow-Front Chest of Drawers

$8,995

A handsome early 19th-century English Regency bow-front chest of drawers, distinguished by richly figured burr walnut veneers and beautifully balanced proportions. The gently curved front is arranged with two smaller drawers above three full-width graduated drawers, offering generous storage while maintaining an elegant, architectural presence.

The walnut is particularly appealing, with lively figuring and tonal variation across the top, drawer fronts and sides. Fine banding frames the top and individual drawers, adding subtle definition without distracting from the natural movement of the wood grain. The chest retains decorative brass bail handles with pierced backplates, together with ornamental escutcheons on the larger drawers.

The bow-front form was particularly fashionable in English furniture around the turn of the 19th century and into the Regency era, allowing a substantial storage piece to appear softer and less imposing than a rectilinear chest.

With its warm color, beautifully figured surfaces and practical scale, this antique English chest would work equally well in a bedroom, dressing room, entrance hall or living room, where its broad top could accommodate a lamp, artwork or collection of decorative objects.
