Large English Lutyens Style Bleached Teak Garden Bench, circa 1920

$5,995

A large English teak garden bench dating to circa 1920, designed in the distinctive Lutyens style and measuring an impressive 77 inches wide. The bench combines an architectural silhouette with generous proportions, offering ample seating while retaining the open, graceful quality associated with this celebrated English garden form.

The high slatted back rises to a broad central arch, flanked by sweeping shaped rails that extend outward toward the distinctive scrolling arms. Horizontal slats continue across the back and sides, while the generously proportioned seat is formed from wide teak slats. Long lower stretchers and a central support provide structure to the broad frame.

The teak has been bleached or lightened, giving the wood a pale, softly varied surface that emphasizes both the grain and the strong geometry of the design. At nearly six and a half feet wide, this larger-scale example has enough presence to anchor a terrace, conservatory or substantial garden setting. It would also make a striking focal point against an old brick or stone wall, beneath a tree, or positioned at the end of a long garden path.
