An English Regency drop-leaf sofa table crafted in mahogany during the early 19th century. Its narrow rectangular top is flanked by two hinged leaves with softly rounded outer corners, allowing the table to expand from 40.5 to 58.25 inches wide. The top displays attractive mahogany grain in warm brown tones, enhanced by an aged and gently timeworn finish.
The front contains two functional drawers, each fitted with a central keyhole and a pair of brass drop handles set against circular backplates. Figured mahogany and mahogany veneer bring visual movement to the drawer fronts and tabletop. The table is raised on four square tapered legs terminating in brass casters, giving the piece an elegant and restrained profile.
At only 21.5 inches deep, the table has the narrow proportions traditionally associated with an English sofa table. It could also serve as a console, writing table or occasional table. Its practical drop-leaf construction, handsome figured wood and understated Regency design allow it to complement both traditional and more contemporary interiors.
