Large French Faux Bamboo Wall Mirror with Pointed Finials, circa 1900
$2,975
A large French faux bamboo mirror dating to circa 1900, featuring an elongated rectangular frame with finely turned bamboo-form elements and distinctive pointed corner finials. Crafted in wood with a warm honey-toned finish, the frame reflects the late 19th century fascination with exotic and naturalistic forms inspired by bamboo furniture imported from Asia and later interpreted in French decorative arts.
The elegant vertical proportions give the mirror a strong architectural presence while maintaining a light and airy appearance. Rounded bamboo nodes contrast beautifully with the sharpened finials projecting from each corner, lending the piece a slightly Anglo-Japanese character often associated with Aesthetic Movement interiors of the period.
Its generous scale makes it particularly versatile above a console, chest, mantel, or in a dressing area, while the warm aged finish allows it to blend naturally into English Country House, French eclectic, traditional, or layered modern interiors.
The frame retains attractive age and patina throughout, with natural tonal variation enhancing the faux bamboo detailing. The mirror plate shows light age-related wear consistent with antique examples, and the reverse retains an older wood backing.
